Last week, I visited with two students who were transferring from a community college to a university. Both knew what Bachelor’s degree they intended to graduate with, and did what they thought they should to ensure the transferability of all their coursework to their degrees. Unfortunately, both did it the wrong way, and between them, they lost 31 credit hours in the transfer. Although, I wouldn’t say that these students’ experience is the norm, it is all too common. |

It sometimes seems to people like me who work with college students everyday, that everybody knows students should be involved in activities and organizations outside of class. I was recently reminded that this is not as obvious to everyone. Therefore, I write this column on getting involved. |

Periodically, I’m asked how someone should go about entering a certain profession or secure a particular type of job (e.g. “How do I Become a Video Game Developer?”, and “How to do Pre-Med”,etc.). That, coupled with my own curiosity on the topic, explains this week’s column on massage therapy. |

One thing most college students agree on, is the need for time management skills, and the need to learn them quickly upon arrival at college. Even for those who were quite organized during high school, college presents a plethora of new challenges. Because college is usually the first time students have complete control of their schedule and their lives, there is often a steep learning curve. |

Working at college Work is one topic that is always a question mark as students and their parents contemplate starting college. Should I work during the semester? How much? Off-campus or on? These questions, and many more, are major considerations as college starts, are more critical questions now than even a year ago, and require both flexibility and understanding from both students and parents. |
