Finding Housing While Studying Abroad

The two words that will aptly describe the feeling of a student who goes to study abroad are excited and anxious. The student does not get to study the subject alone. He/she learns a different culture, acquires diverse friends, gets trained to manage himself/herself in an alien country and many other added incentives along with the academic study. If he/she has to procure all these, a good environment is required for his/her activities other than college work. Added to this, is the concern of the parents for the safety and security of their sons and daughters. This is where accommodation plays a very important role.

The accommodation, be it on campus or off campus, should be able to provide the following to the students with absolute quality.

Safety
This is the most important of all. The student being new to the country might be unaware of the dangers of theft and harassment and they become perfect targets for the plunderers. The accommodation facilities should be capable of shielding the students from these potential threats.

Housing Environment
When you are away from home, one thing becomes an obligation - Sharing. It is quite natural for student accommodations to have common study spaces, common entertainment area and common bathrooms. Students should choose carefully, in accordance with their comfort levels and the amount of privacy they need. Also, the department of study of the student might dictate this necessity as an art student might require some peaceful atmosphere for his/her study.

Accessibility
If the student is going to spend most of his/her time in travel, it's never going to be fruitful. Accessibility to various places from within campus or outside campus is a must. It will be wise to choose an accommodation that has a convenience store and certain other hang out options for the students within a small radius.

Services
Care must be taken to note if facilities like dining, furnishing, internet connection and other such services come along with the accommodation. Maintenance services should be regular so that there are no mice and other rodent infestation which can be common in student housing. Repair works in case of any plumbing or drainage failure should be attended to without delay. A proper medical facility is also needed to attend to the students who might find it difficult due to the climatic conditions and the food of the new country. Students might also suffer from home sickness and cultural shock. So, counselling help would also be a good idea for the student to cope with the new environment.

Cost
The number of students choosing to study abroad increases each year, the cost of the accommodation facilities increases correspondingly. Care should be taken while choosing a facility to make sure that they are providing worth the money they demand.

As mentioned above the number of students is increasing rapidly and due to this the on-campus housing facilities are unable to accommodate everyone. This is where private facilities such as Urbanest Student Accommodation come into the picture. A student accommodation should make the student feel at home, even though he/she is away from home.
