Pre-Med AND Pre-Law?Q. I'm 15 years old and i want to be a lawyer. i also want to be a surgeon. Can i major in both law and medicine at the same time when i go to college?
A. Neither pre-law nor pre-med is actually a major at most colleges, but a set of pre-requisites or a statement of your intent after graduation. In actuality, neither medical schools nor law schools really care what your major is, as long as you met their pre-requisites and did very well in whatever you took. So, YES, you can "major" in both at college. Many colleges will have an individual or office that provides advisement for those planning on attending professional school after graduation. So definitely look into that once you're at college. I've even heard of opportunities to receive a law degree online. You will probably already know how much extra schooling you'll be taking (if you don't know, you should talk to someone or do some research to find out), but as long as you're okay with that and can do well in whatever undergraduate major you select, more power to you. Best of luck! Back to Articles List |
